STORY OF THE HOLMES BROTHERS
The Holmes Brothers, Laurie and Gary, grew up in Durban on the East Coast of South Africa. They made the most of the warm, tropical climate, surfing whenever the waves were right and relaxing on the beach when they weren't.
The Holmes story began when Laurie was just 14 and couldn’t find anyone to shape the specific boards he wanted to ride. Out of sheer frustration, he started shaping his own boards in the garage of their house. A Holmes logo was quickly created for the boards, and soon after, it made its way onto T-shirts and board shorts. Founded in 1994, the company takes pride in its social responsibility to both the community and the planet.
All the wood for the shops' interiors is reclaimed, and the shopping bags are made locally from recycled paper and fabric offcuts. Nearly the entire product range is made in South Africa; only highly technical items that cannot be manufactured locally are produced offshore. While local design is an important heritage of the brand, staying current with international trends and design elements is essential. Holmes Brothers represents a perfect blend of these two worlds local design paired with international quality and execution.
Peace.
